Lehigh fourth after day one at Patriot League Championship

MIDLOTHIAN, Va. – An opening round 308 had the Lehigh women's golf team in the hunt, just four strokes off the team lead at the Patriot League Championship, but an afternoon 323 at Independence Golf Club dropped the Mountain Hawks to fourth place in the six-team field after day one.
 
At 631, Lehigh sits 21 strokes behind Boston University, which leads at 610 behind rounds of 304 and 306. Navy is second, just one stroke behind the Terriers, while three-time defending champion Richmond is four strokes behind BU.
 
Two Mountain Hawks are in the top 10 individually after the first 36 holes. Senior Reagan Jahn led Lehigh in round one with a one over par 73 that was highlighted by an eagle on the par 5 17th. Jahn made two birdies in the afternoon, but shot 81 and sits in eighth place at 10 over par 154. Sophomore Angela Ding started strong with three birdies in her first 10 holes and shot 74 in round one. Ding also carded an 81 in the afternoon and sits in ninth place at 154.
 
Junior Minuette Laessig was the third Lehigh player to break 80 in round one, shooting a 77 that included two birdies. An afternoon 83 has Laessig tied for 17th place at 163.
 
The low round for Lehigh in the afternoon was turned in by senior Aileen Jeong, who carded two birdies on the way to a 78. Jeong opened with an 86 and is tied for 23rd place at 164.
 
Junior Rebecca Markunas sits in 28th place at 171 with rounds of 88 and 83. Markunas did open round two by making two birdies in her first nine holes. Freshman Alexis Carras sits in 30th place at 173 (84-89).
 
Navy's Shannon Gould holds the 36-hole individual lead at three over par 147 (74-73). She leads Richmond's Sophie DiPetrillo by one stroke. Hanako Kawasaki of Boston University is in third place, two shots off the lead.
 
The Patriot League Championship concludes Sunday with the final 18 holes from Independence Golf Club. Lehigh will play with Bucknell and Holy Cross, going off the 10th tee beginning at 8:30 a.m.
