
Quinn paces Mountain Hawks at spring-opening UNCG Martin Downs Collegiate

PALM CITY, Fla. – Junior Owen Quinn carded a second straight round of one under par 71 to lead the Lehigh men's golf team at its spring-opening UNCG Martin Downs Collegiate, which wrapped up Tuesday.
Quinn's performance led the way for a Lehigh team that was down a player for the final round. As a team the Mountain Hawks shot 313 to finish the 13-team event at 937 (319-305-313).
In Tuesday's final round, Quinn carded three birdies and two bogeys. He moved into a tie for 21st place at two over par 218 (76-71-71).
Freshman Michael Tanaka was Lehigh's No. 2 finisher, tying for 60th place at 232 (80-73-79). Tanaka's final round 79 was highlighted by an eagle on the par 5 17th hole.
Junior Ryan Kelly tied for 81st place at 241 (76-83-82), while senior Lee Hammerschmidt shot 246 (87-78-81) and finished in 85th place. Hammerschmidt made a birdie on the fourth hole in Tuesday's final round.
Lehigh's fifth player, senior Eamon Marone, withdrew after shooting 89 and 87 over his first two rounds.
Senior Max Redetzke finished in 84th place at 243 (83-78-82) while competing as an individual.
Tournament host UNCG claimed its own tournament title finishing at 14 under par 850 (293-273-284). Mercer finished in second place, six shots behind the Spartans.
A final round 70 lifted UNCG's Nick Lyerly to medalist honors at nine under par 207. Lyerly edged Kristian Tannum Donaldson of VCU by one stroke.
Lehigh will return to Florida over spring break to compete in the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular, hosted by George Mason, in Howey-in-the-Hills, March 16-17.
