
Quinn shoots 71 to lead Lehigh on day two of UNCG Martin Downs Collegiate

PALM CITY, Fla. – Lehigh shaved 14 strokes off its opening round total on day two of the UNCG Martin Downs Collegiate as the Mountain Hawks carded a 305 Monday on the Osprey Course at Martin Downs Golf Club. Junior Owen Quinn shot a one under par 71 Monday as Lehigh sits at 624 (319-305) heading into Tuesday's final round.
After a strong opening round was derailed by a triple bogey on 18 on Sunday, Quinn came back strong with four birdies over his first nine holes on Monday. Quinn started on 10 on Monday and opened the back nine with seven consecutive pars before a birdie on the par 5 eighth hole helped Quinn finish at 71. For the tournament, Quinn is tied for 28th place at three over par 147 (76-71).
Freshman Michael Tanaka turned in a strong round of 73 Monday to move up to a tie for 55th place. Tanaka made three birdies and two double bogeys and sits at 153 (80-73) for the tournament.
Junior Ryan Kelly matched Quinn with a 76 on Sunday and shot 83 on Monday as he sits in a tie for 77th at 159.
Senior Lee Hammerschmidt enjoyed the biggest improvement from round one, dropping nine strokes from his Sunday total to shoot 78. He sits in 85th place at 165 (87-78) and carded two birdies in his second round.
Lehigh's fifth scoring player is senior Eamon Marone, who sits at 176 (89-87) and is in 90th place.
Senior Max Redetzke is competing as an individual and shot 78 on Monday. He is in 81st place at 161 (83-78).
Tournament host UNCG has stormed to the top of the 13-team field, shooting 15 under par 273 to finish 36 holes at 10 under par 566 (293-273). The Spartans lead Mercer by two strokes, while James Madison is third at one under par.
A second consecutive round of 67 has given Kristian Tannum Donaldson of VCU a three stroke lead entering the final round. Donaldson sits at 10 under par 134 and leads Nick Lyerly of UNCG by three strokes.
The UNCG Martin Downs Collegiate concludes Tuesday with the final 18 holes. Due to the threat of inclement weather, Tuesday's final round will feature a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m.
