Lehigh continues five-match homestand against Bucknell, Lafayette

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The Lehigh volleyball team continues its five-match homestand this weekend on Saturday against Bucknell and Sunday against Lafayette, getting ready to begin the second round of Patriot League play after starting the first half with an even 4-4 record.
After dropping four league matchups in a row, the Mountain Hawks have gotten back on track as of late with consecutive straight-set victories over Loyola and Holy Cross. Lehigh is at .500 both overall and in the Patriot League and continue on in 2019 with eight matches left on the schedule including four at Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall.
Senior middle-blocker Lauren Bright continues to lead both the Mountain Hawks and the Patriot League in attack percentage with a mark of .367. She is also one of the team's leaders in blocks with 79 so far, just one behind fellow senior middle-blocker Emily Poole. Junior outside hitter Sabrina Lancaster is still the team leader in kills at 244 and kills per set at 3.59, while also tied for the team lead in digs at 160 with junior libero Allison Garrett. Sophomore setter Sarah Carman continues to be among the league-leaders in assists with 579 so far this season, averaging 9.19 per set while sophomore setter Alina Lam has added 200 assists to go along with 69 digs. The Mountain Hawks are hitting .220 as a team, allowing a .209 mark to opponents with 12.2 kills per set, 11.5 assists per set and 13.6 digs per set with 179.5 total blocks.
Bucknell has had a rough start to Patriot League play, dropping its last two matches to Colgate and Navy in straight sets after a five-set victory over Holy Cross on Oct. 12. The Bison are 2-6 so far in the league and will look to bounce back in the second half of matches. Bucknell is led by freshman Kelsey O'Laughlin, who comes into the weekend as one of the league-leaders in assists (725) and service aces (23). O'Laughlin also leads the way with an attack percentage of .308, while Sophie Bullard maintains the team lead in kills with 215 and kills per set at 2.91. Brooke Stark leads with 284 digs, averaging 4.18 per set while Mimi Richards holds the team lead in blocks with 74. Bucknell is fourth in the league in opponents' hitting percentage, allowing a mark of .185 and is hitting .207 as a team so far.
Lehigh leads the all-time series over Bucknell, 50-29 after last winning in four sets back on Sept. 28 in Lewisburg.
On Sunday, the Mountain Hawks welcome archrival Lafayette to Grace Hall for the 92nd playing of The Rivalry match. This will be the final matchup between the two teams in 2019 after sweeping last year. The Leopards, like Bucknell, are in the middle of a rough patch, dropping their last three matches. They fell to American in four sets on Saturday, Army West Point in four on Oct. 15 and to Colgate in five back on Oct. 12. Coming into the weekend, Lafayette is looking for its first victory since a five-set win over Holy Cross on Oct. 11 in Easton. Madi Wahrmund leads the team with a .350 attack percentage while Grace Tulevech leads the way with 285 kills, averaging 3.06 per set. Julia Howard has a team-best 496 assists, with Jenna Bailey just trailing behind with 427. On the defensive side of the ball, Katrina Ruggiero has 184 digs, ranked first among Leopards, while Kelly Austin has 81 blocks so far. Lafayette is hitting .203 as a team, averaging 12.2 kills per set, 11.0 assists per set and 13.3 digs per set.
Lehigh leads the all-time series over the Leopards, 61-30 after getting a five-set win back on Sept. 27 in Easton. The Mountain Hawks have won eight straight matches against the Lafayette dating back to Oct. 21, 2015.
Sunday's match with Lafayette will be streamed on the Patriot League Network starting at 4 p.m. Saturday's match with Bucknell will not be streamed, but live stats will be provided.
