BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh field hockey team wraps up its road schedule on Sunday when it travels to La Salle to face the Explorers. Gametime is set for 12 p.m. The Mountain Hawks are looking for an ever-elusive victory as they head into their final weekend of the regular season the first weekend of November at home. It would take some help, but Lehigh enters this weekend still alive for a Patriot League Tournament berth. If Boston University defeats Holy Cross on Saturday, the Mountain Hawks would remain mathematically alive heading into the final game of the regular season.
Â
The way Lehigh could still advance to the tournament is a three-way tie for fourth place with Boston University and Holy Cross at 2-4. Even if that happened, the Mountain Hawks would need to win a goal differential between tied teams tiebreaker. A Holy Cross win this weekend would eliminate Lehigh, but a Terriers' victory would keep the Mountain Hawks alive heading into next weekend's matchup against Boston University.
Â
After a pair of one-goal defeats last weekend, Lehigh fell into a 3-0 first-quarter hole at Cornell, on the way to a 4-0 defeat. The Mountain Hawks bounced back over the final three stanzas, and even held a 7-5 edge in penalty corners, but were only able to post six shots for the game. Freshman Maddie Kahn made eight saves in goal.
Â
La Salle stands 6-9 on the season, but the Explorers are 4-1 at home compared to 2-8 on the road. Their only home defeat came to Lock Haven by a 1-0 final. Amanda Chapin leads La Salle in points (15), assists (9) and defensive saves (3). Rialee Allen is second in points with 12 and is one of three Explorers tied for the team lead in goals (4). Three different goalkeepers have started games, led by Cassie Kincaid who owns a 2.26 goals against average and 71.4 save percentage.
Â
The Explorers lead a competitive all-time series, 17-15-2. La Salle has won the last four meetings, including the most recent showdown in 2017, 1-0. Lehigh's last win was in 2011 by a 4-3 final in overtime. Lehigh's last win at La Salle came in 1997.
Â
Following Sunday's game, the Mountain Hawks return home next weekend to host Saint Louis on Friday (3 p.m.) and Boston University on Saturday (11 a.m.) on Senior Day.
