Mountain Hawks drop Saturday contest at Bucknell

10/12/2019 9:03:00 PM | Field Hockey

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell scored five second-quarter goals, which proved too much for the Lehigh field hockey team to overcome as the Bison defeated the Mountain Hawks, 8-2 on Saturday. A big bright spot for Lehigh was junior Drew Pecora, who scored two goals to up her season to 10 – continuing to stand among the top players in the nation in goals (10) and points.

Bucknell jumped out to a quick lead just 2:06 into the contest and led 2-0 after one quarter of play. The advantage extended to 3-0 in the 19th minute, but Pecora answered with her first of the evening. Sophomore Olivia Perrone fired the ball towards cage and Pecora did the rest for her ninth goal of the season.

That began a stretch of six goals in the span of 6:21, two scored by the Mountain Hawks. Pecora added her second at the 26:58 mark. Junior Anna Lehman created a turnover, which went directly to Pecora who went towards cage and beat Bison goalkeeper Olivia Harris.

After Bucknell took a 7-2 lead into the second half, both defenses stepped up in the, with just one goal scored over the final 30 minutes – by the Bison at the 56:56 mark off a penalty stroke, to account for the 8-2 final.

Final shots were 19-10 in favor of Bucknell while the Bison held a 6-3 edge in penalty corners. Freshman Maddie Kahn made seven saves, allowing seven goals, while junior Stephanie Brabender played the game's final 3:04.
