BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's cross country team took part in the 45th running of the Paul Short Run on the Goodman Cross Country Course on the campus of Lehigh University.

The Mountain Hawks took part in a pair of races Saturday, as they had runners compete in both the women's open 6k race and women's Gold 6k Race.

In the women's Gold race, the Mountain Hawks placed 19th overall as a team out of 41 schools competing.

The top three finishers for Lehigh were all Juniors, as Diana Hammerstone set the pace for Lehigh, as she finished 70th overall with a time of 21:57. Hannah Bonaguidi was next to finish for the Mountain Hawks, finishing 91st overall with a time of 22:10 and Ashleigh Crawford placed 117th with a time of 22:21.

"Our goal for this race was to be in the top-20, and we finished 19th, hitting our goal. What we saw out of the other patriot league teams at this race was that there is nothing insurmountable for the rest of the season. I think our freshmen are running well as a pack, pushing the upperclassmen and Diana is gaining with each performance," said head coach Debbie Utesch.

Yale was the top team, finishing with a team score of 118, besting Georgia (127) and Utah State (163).  Brogan MacDougall of Queen's University was the individual winner, finishing with a time of 20:21.

In the women's open, Sophomore Susie Poore was the fastest runner for Lehigh, as she finished with a time of 23:15. Junior Sydney Brannon was next to finish for the Mountain Hawks with a time of 23:48. After Brannon was sophomore Erin Tressler, who finished ith a time of 24:32.

Lehigh will take part in the Penn State National Open for its next meet, which will happen on Friday, October 12 in University Park, Pa.

"What we're really looking forward is the weekend off. We've raced three weeks in a row, and our runners' legs are feeling it. Which in a way is a bright spot, it shows we can still be this completive even with the fatigue."
