BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's golf team makes its third visit to the Naval Academy Golf Club this season as the Mountain Hawks prepare for the two-day, 54-hole Patriot League Championship, hosted by Navy beginning Saturday.
Â
The six Patriot League institutions will compete on the par 72, 6,085 course at the Naval Academy Golf Club. Action begins at 8:30 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday with teams playing 36 holes Saturday with the final 18 set for Sunday.
Â
This marks the sixth year of the Patriot League Women's Golf Championship. Lehigh won the inaugural championship in 2013 and finished third last year at Saucon Valley Country Club.
Â
The Patriot League team champion will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Women's Golf Regionals. Richmond is the two-time defending team champion. Four different schools (Lehigh, Bucknell, Boston U. and Richmond) have won the team title in the first five championship events.
Â
Junior Reagan Jahn will lead Lehigh's six-player entry. Jahn is a two-time second team All-Patriot League performer, was Lehigh's top finisher in all three of its spring tournaments.
Â
Lehigh's lone senior, Megan Moylan, will occupy the No. 2 position in this, her fourth league championship. Moylan finished 19th last year and finished 14th as a freshman last time Navy hosted the championship.
Â
Sophomore Minuette Laessig will play in the No. 3 position. Laessig shared Rookie of the Year honors with Jackie Gonzalez of Holy Cross after a 16th place finish last year.
Â
Lehigh's two freshmen: Angela Ding and Alexis Browne will man the No. 4 and No. 5 positions, while sophomore Rebecca Markunas will compete at No. 6. Markunas tied for 29th in last year's championship.
Â
In its last action before the championship, Lehigh finished seventh out of nine teams at Navy's Spring Invitational, April 6-7. Jahn led the way for the Mountain Hawks, finishing fourth at 158 (80-78) on a weekend were course conditions made scoring tough for all players.
Â
The Mountain Hawks also competed in Navy's Fall Invitational, finishing third out of 12 teams in September.
Â
For Saturday's first two rounds, Lehigh will be paired with Holy Cross and Boston University. Players will tee off from the 10th hole at 8:30 a.m. for round one and off the first hole for round two.
