BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The red-hot Lehigh men's basketball team is set to open Patriot League Tournament play on Thursday when it hosts Boston University in the quarterfinals. Opening tipoff in Stabler Arena is set for 7 p.m., broadcast locally on Service Electric 2 Sports and online via the Patriot League Network. Lehigh is coming off an impressive 79-64 win over archrival Lafayette Saturday to extend its winning streak to eight games, tied for the sixth longest active streak in the nation. The last three years, the Mountain Hawks have entered the postseason on winning streaks of eight (2018), four (2017) and nine (2016), respectively.

Tickets for Thursday's game are only $14, including just $7 for Lehigh students. After 10 Patriot League games, the Mountain Hawks stood 3-7 in league play, but a hard-fought 71-67 win at Holy Cross helped spark a February surge that the program has become accustomed to. Lehigh finished this February 7-0, two years after going 9-0 in February of 2016. Prior to 2016, the last time Lehigh didn't lose in a calendar month was in November of 1993; that month featured just one game. The Mountain Hawks are now 22-2 over their last three Februaries.

In Lehigh's eight-game winning streak, it has defeated everyone from the league except Navy, the only team that swept the Mountain Hawks this season. Lehigh surged all the way into a tie for third place in the Patriot League standings at 11-7, but enters the tournament as the No. 4 seed due to tiebreaker. It marks the fourth straight season and eighth time in the last nine years that the Mountain Hawks will play the Patriot League Quarterfinals at home. Lehigh has won 10 or more Patriot League games for four straight seasons; the only other team to do that is Bucknell. In senior Kahron Ross' career, Lehigh went 10-8, 13-5, 12-6 and 11-7 for a league mark of 46-26.

Ross enjoyed a Senior Night to remember against Lafayette, scoring a game-high 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting. In the process, he moved into 15th place in school history for career scoring (1,351 points). On Monday, both Ross and junior Lance Tejada were named second team All-Patriot League honorees. For Ross, he became the first player in school history to be named All-League four times in a career. Tejada enjoyed a strong bounce back game vs. Lafayette, scoring 13 points while freshman Marques Wilson had 12 points and a career-high nine rebounds. Wilson was recognized with Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors after also scoring 15 points on Wednesday at Loyola.

Sophomore Jordan Cohen also scored 12 points while freshman James Karnik tallied eight points and nine boards. Lehigh shot 50 percent from three in the first half (7-of-14), but just 15 percent in the second (2-of-13) to finish at 33 percent for the game (9-of-27). It marked Lehigh's third straight game under 50 percent from three after converting on at least half of its attempts from distance for its previous six contests. Wilson continued his hot play, knocking down both of his three-point attempts. He is now 10 of his last 13 and 21 of his last 34 from distance. Lehigh finished with 79 points, just barely breaking a six-game streak of scoring 80+ points.

On Saturday, the Mountain Hawks jumped out to a 14-3 lead and wouldn't look back. Lafayette pulled within 12 on multiple second-half occasions, but Lehigh always had an answer. It marked the Mountain Hawks' sixth straight win over Lafayette, a team that had been surging. Lehigh dominated the boards, 45-31, limiting Lafayette to just three offensive rebounds.

When the Mountain Hawks and Terriers played in early February, Lehigh was 4-7 and in seventh place while Boston University was 8-3 and in second. Thursday will mark the second straight season the teams will square off in the Patriot League Tournament; last season, the Mountain Hawks pulled out a 91-88 double overtime thriller in the semifinals.

Following a five-game losing streak, Boston University has responded with two straight victories to close the regular season, 81-65 vs. Lafayette and 61-59 at Army West Point. The Terriers' five-game losing skid began at Lehigh on Feb. 3 and included losses at Colgate, home vs. Holy Cross, at American and vs. Navy. Cedric Hankerson is the Terriers' leading scorer, averaging 13.5 points per game, but he has missed six games due to injury. Third team All-Patriot League honoree Max Mahoney is averaging 12.8 points and 5.0 rebounds while Tyler Scanlon comes in at 10.4 points and 5.7 boards. All-Rookie team member Walter Whyte comes in at 9.0 points and 4.9 rebounds per contest. In its last game (at Army), Boston University shot 82 percent from the field in the first half, but just 27 percent in the second as 24 turnovers helped the Black Knights gets back into the game down the stretch.

Lehigh and Boston University split the two regular-season meetings with the Terriers winning on Jan. 8, 92-81 and the Mountain Hawks on Feb. 3, 80-75. It marked Lehigh's second win over Boston University in its last three tries after dropping the previous three meetings. The February victory also snapped a four-game losing streak against Boston University in the all-time series. Overall, Lehigh has won two of its last three meetings vs. the Terriers in Stabler Arena. Thursday will mark the second straight season the teams will meet in the Patriot League Tournament with Lehigh pulling out a 91-88 double overtime thriller in last year's Patriot League Semifinals. Boston University won the first-ever meeting between the two sides in 1968-69 by an 81-56 final. It marked the only meeting between the two schools before the Patriot League era.

If Lehigh wins on Thursday, the Mountain Hawks would either travel to top-seeded Bucknell or host No. 8 Loyola/No. 9 Army West Point in the Patriot League Semifinals Sunday afternoon.
