Quinn, Kelly post top 10 finishes to lead Mountain Hawks at UConn Invitational

HAMPDEN, Mass. – After opening the UConn Invitational at GreatHorse with back-to-back rounds of 306, the Lehigh men's the golf team broke 300 in Tuesday's final round, shooting 298 to move into sixth place in the 13-team field at 906.
 
Juniors Owen Quinn and Ryan Kelly led the Mountain Hawks individually with top 10 finishes, after both players shot one over par 73 on Tuesday. Quinn finished in fifth place behind a four-way tie for first at four over par 220 (75-72-73), two strokes behind the quartet that contested a playoff for the individual title. Kelly tied for 10th at 223 (73-77-73).
 
Freshman Michael Tanaka shot 75 on Tuesday after an 80 on Monday but did not factor into the individual standings after not completing round one on Sunday.
 
Seniors Eamon Marone and Lee Hammerschmidt both shot 77 on Tuesday. Marone tied for 35th, shooting 231 (76-78-77), while Hammerschmidt shot 234 (80-77-77) and tied for 52nd place.
 
Tournament host UConn cruised to the team title with a final score of 883. The Huskies defeated runner-up Hartford by nine strokes. Tianyi Cen of Cornell won a 3-way playoff against UConn's Jimmy Hervol and Hartford's Elias Gross on the first playoff hole to capture medalist honors.
 
The Mountain Hawks will face Lafayette in match play in the annual Presidents Cup event Oct. 16 in Gladstone, N.J. before closing out the fall by hosting the Lehigh Invitational Oct. 19-20 on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club.
