
Lehigh tied for seventh after opening round of UConn Invitational

HAMPDEN, Mass. – An opening round 304 has the Lehigh men's golf team tied for seventh place in a 13-team field after day one of the UConn Invitational at GreatHorse, Sunday at GreatHorse Country Club.
Junior Ryan Kelly led the way for the Mountain Hawks on day one of the three-day, 54-hole event, shooting one over par 73 to sit in a tie for fifth place after 18 holes. The Mountain Hawks are down to four active players for the tournament as freshman Michael Tanaka withdrew.
Junior Owen Quinn is two strokes behind Kelly and is tied for 16th place after a 75 while senior Eamon Marone shot 76 and is tied for 24th place.
Senior Lee Hammerschmidt shot 80 on Sunday and is tied for 65th place.
Tournament host UConn shot 294 as a team and leads the team standings by four strokes over Hartford.
Four players shot even par 72 to share the individual lead by one stroke over a group that includes Kelly.
The UConn Invitational at GreatHorse continues Monday with round two beginning at 8:30 a.m. Lehigh will play with Cornell and Fairfield and will go off from the first tee at 8:30.
