LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Lehigh women's cross country team finished second as a team in the 2018 Patriot League Championship with 73 points. Among their top-five runners, all of them placed in the top-20 Saturday.
Finishing first was Bucknell who finished with 33 points. The Bison had all their top-five runners place in the top-10.
"They did a great job of just stepping to the line and competing for a championship. They put themselves into position and fought and battled the whole race. It was rough conditions for the course, and our girls were ready for it, they feed off each other, and they exicuted as well as they could today," said head coach Debbie Utesch after the race.
Junior Diana Hammerstone was once again at the forefront for the Mountain Hawks, finishing eighth overall with a time of 22:14.10. This is the fifth race this year that she's been the top runner for Lehigh.
Freshmen Jamie Zamrin was next to finish for the Mountain Hawks, finishing 12th overall with a time of 22:21.0.
Fellow freshman Nicole Abbondandelo was next to finish for the Brown and White, taking a 14th place finish to go along with a time of 22:23. Another Mountain Hawk to see continued success this year, Abbondandelo posted her highest 6k time of the year.
Hammerstone, Zamrin and Abbondandelo were all named to the All-Patriot League second team after their performances in Lewisburg.
Senior Stacie Nadel and freshman Jade Sessions rounded out the top-20, as Nadel placed 19th with a time of 22:42.9 and Sessions finished 20th with a time of 22:44.1.
"We had a remarkable amount of track and field athletes out today along with the rest of our cross country team. There were a lot of parents, alumni and friends of the program out supporting us, and that made it a neat environment at Bucknell," said Utesch.
The Mountain Hawks will prepare for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional in University Park, Pa. on November 9.
