BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The Mountain Hawks are ready to get back to work, especially after falling at the hands of American at Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall on Tuesday night in five sets. On Friday evening, Lehigh visits Colgate in an attempt to stay undefeated on the road with a record of 7-0.
With a hitting percentage of .171 against the Eagles, Lehigh struggled to get much going from the third set on, hitting sub-.200 after finishing the second set at a .303 mark.
The Mountian Hawks saw a ton of solid performances for individual players, especially for junior Lauren Bright, who tallied seven kills and hit .412 and junior Julia Pressly, who followed up her season-best day at Bucknell with a 15-kill night.
Freshman setter Alina Lam continued to impress on the court, registering 46 assists and a career-high 24 digs against American. In her last six matches, Lam has six double-doubles. She's finished with seven so far this season after being first inserted into the starting lineup back on Sept. 8 vs. Penn.
Lehigh is currently ranked second in the Patriot League with a .217 hitting percentage as a team, but leading the league in opponents' hitting percentage with a .147 mark. With Lam and senior Megan Polak accumulating most of the assist totals, the Mountain Hawks are also ranked second in assists per set with 11.97 through the first 19 matches of the season.
With junior Emily Poole still holding down the fort atop the Patriot League in blocks (95) and blocks per set (1.30), Lehigh is also tops for the team lead in blocks (193.5) and blocks per set (2.58).
The Raiders (8-10, 3-3) come into Friday night's action trying to bounce back from back-to-back losses against Navy and American, the Patriot League's top two teams this season which Lehigh also had difficulties with this season. Like the Mountain Hawks, Colgate has also gathered wins over Rutgers, Army, Lafayette and Bucknell so far.
Junior Taylor Flaherty leads the Raiders in hitting percentage with a .291 mark this season, tallying 16 blocks and 61 kills in 38 sets played this season. Alli Lowe and Alex Stein are Colgate's kill leaders so far this year, with 190 and 164 kills, respectively. Julia Kurowski leads the team in assists with 586, averaging 9.30 per set.
Colgate is hitting .200 as a team this season, last hitting .170 against American on Saturday and .193 against Navy on Friday night.
The last time the Mountain Hawks saw the Raiders was back on Oct. 21 of last year in Hamilton, where Colgate swept Lehigh, 25-19, 25-21, 26-24. Ana Spangenberg led Lehigh with 15 kills and 10 digs and hit .333, Pressly had seven kills and Polak tallied five kills, three digs and 25 assists, with a .455 hitting percentage. Lehigh hit .188 as a team, while the Raiders hit .236 with Alli Lowe leading the team with 17 digs and a .364 hitting mark.
Colgate leads the all-time series 39-19, having won three of the last four matchups.
Friday's match will be streamed live on the Patriot League Network at 7 p.m.
