Volleyball to Host Villanova Tuesday Night

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Mountain Hawks return home Tuesday to for their first midweek contest of the season when they square off against Villanova at 7 p.m. inside Grace Hall. The match will be streamed live for free on the Patriot League Network.
Lehigh (5-5) is returning home from a trip to Texas las weekend where they went 1-2 in Fight in the Fort tournament. LU began the trip with a 3-0 victory over Utah Valley on Friday as the Mountain Hawks held the Wolverines to a season-low .103 hitting percentage for the match. Lehigh suffered a pair of losses in two competitive Saturday matches, which included a 3-1 loss to TCU and a fifth-set defeat against Duke.
Villanova (6-3) is coming off a three-match home stand last weekend during which the Wildcats went 2-1 with sweeps over UConn and Albany and a loss to Princeton. The Wildcats are 2-0 against ACC teams this season with wins over Virginia and Georgia Tech, while suffering setbacks to top-25 ranked teams Texas and San Diego. The Wildcats were picked fifth out of 10 teams in the Big East Preseason Coaches' Poll after returning 12 players from last year's team, including one All-Big East selection, Allie Loitz.
Right side hitter Ana Spangenberg has been the catalyst for Lehigh thus far, getting it done both offensively and defensively. She leads the team with 102 total kills at an average of 2.83 kills per set. Spangenberg ranks second on the team with 24 total blocks and 22 block assists.
Middle blocker Lauren Bright has also been a key contributor in multiple facets as she leads the team with 35 total blocks with a team-best average of 0.97 blocks per set. She also ranks third on the team with 73 total kills while owning a .276 hitting percentage.
The Wildcats are led by middle blocker Amanda Pedersen-Henry who's 81 kills and 19 total blocks top the team's charts. The junior is hitting .261 for the season and averaging 2.61 kills per set.
Villanova holds a slight advantage in the offensive numbers with a team attack percentage of .221 compared to Lehigh's .200 mark as each team is averaging just under 13 kills per set. Led by Emily Develle's 4.50 digs per set, LU holds the advantage defensively with 15.4 digs per set compared to Villanova's mark of 13.8. Lehigh's 2.0 blocks per set also holds an edge over the 1.4 mark held by the Wildcats.
Villanova holds a 28-6 advantage over Lehigh in the all-time series which began in 1974. The Wildcats currently own an 18-match win streak over the Mountain Hawks which started in 1986. A 2-1 win in 1985 was the last time Lehigh triumphed over Villanova.
