BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Junior Trevor Knowles captured his third straight decathlon title and senior Lucas Warning broke his own school record to win the shot put on Saturday's final day of competition at the Patriot League Championships at Lehigh's Goodman Campus. As a team, Lehigh finished fifth overall with 83.5 points, finishing 46 points ahead of sixth place Lafayette and finishing 32.5 points behind fourth place Bucknell. Navy scored 264 team points to capture its fourth straight team title.
Â
"The men really did a great job today," said head coach Matt Utesch. "I don't think the score necessarily shows exactly what they did. You look at what Navy has and it's pretty lopsided. I think the better we get, the better Lafayette and all those others teams get, and the more level the playing field is going to become within the league. We are a very young team on the men's side and I'm really pleased with the culture of our men's program and the work ethic they have. The direction they're going in is excellent."
Â
Knowles becomes just the second male to win three decathlon titles since the event was introduced in 2004. He finished with 7,197 points, barreling past his own school and Patriot League Championship meet record of 7,001 points, which he had set last year. Knowles won six of the decathlon's 10 events and set new personal records in four of them – 110m hurdles (15.08), high jump (1.93m), discus (42.10m) and javelin (53.20m). He finished 882 points ahead of the second place finisher.

Â
"Trevor is another guy who just wins," Utesch said. "That's three straight outdoor multis and he's never lost an indoor. He's not just winning it, he's winning it by 900 points. He just keeps winning and setting the Patriot League record every time he comes out here."
Â
Freshman Kyle Sult joined Knowles in the decathlon and finished eighth with a new PR of 5,662 points.
Â
Warning won his second straight outdoor shot put title, and third overall of his career with his throw of 18.98 meters. The mark surpasses his own school record by 26 centimeters that he had set just two weeks ago. The throw also smashes the Patriot League Championship meet record of 17.52m, which was held by Navy's Darryl Hunter since 2008. Warning finished 1.34 meters ahead of the second place finisher.
Â
"I don't know what kind of machine that guy is, but he's something," Utesch said. "He has just worked so hard to perfect his technique and make it such an art form. It is just incredible to watch him keep breaking records and honestly, he hasn't thrown as far as he's going to throw yet."
Â
Warning's latest record comes just one day after he set a new school record in the discus (54.74m), where he finished third overall. Evan Hardy was Lehigh's other podium finisher this weekend after his third place finish in Friday's 10K.
Â
Elsewhere is Saturday's field events, sophomore Ryan Givens scored in sixth place of the high jump (1.92m), and Michael Gooding (14.29m) and Daniel Reichenbach (14.26m) placed sixth and seventh, respectively, in the triple jump.
Â
Over on the track, Emre Soybas (48.78) registered a fifth place finish in the 400m dash and freshman Matt Kravitz narrowly missed the podium in fourth place of the 800m run after finishing in 1:52.39. Kyle Berman also picked up a team point in eighth place of the 1500m. In the 3,000m steeplechase, freshman Victor Yegon (9:31.01) took fifth place, followed by Henry Paul (9:31.03) in sixth.
Â
In the hurdles, junior Fritz Isaac scored team points with his sixth place finish in the 110m hurdle finals.
In the 4x100 meter relay, Christopher Del Rossi, Soybas, Jake Sabatini and Michael Camera finished in fifth place (41.79), and the 4x400 team of James Clements, Del Rossi, Joe Espinal and Soybas ended the day with a fourth place mark (3:17.80).
Â
"The topic in our team meetings was, 'You've trained for 35 weeks for this, and are you going to allow rain and wind to stop you?'" Utesch said on hosting this year's championships. "We had personal bests all over the place, and in almost every event. In this sort of bad weather situation, our kids ignored it and I think that is why we scored as many points as we did. Our kids were unaffected by it and I'm proud of that. Spending time with the kids is the best part of the job and I love them, they make me laugh every single day."
