Mountain Hawks top Lafayette in stroke play in final tuneup for Patriot League Championship

The Rivalry: Lehigh vs. Lafayette

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – In its final competition before this weekend's Patriot League Championship, the Lehigh men's golf team defeated rival Lafayette in stroke play Wednesday on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club. After defeating the Leopards in match play to win the President's Cup last October, the Mountain Hawks prevailed by a 377-388 score Wednesday in the stroke play format with the teams counting the best five scores among eight players.
 
Seven of Lehigh's eight players broke 80 on the day, led by junior Billy Johns, who posted the low round of the day with a one-over par 73.
 
Four Mountain Hawks carded rounds of 76 to contribute to Lehigh's team total of 377: sophomores Eamon Marone and Lee Hammerschmidt and freshmen Joe Ender and Ryan Kelly.
 
Also competing for Lehigh were sophomore Johnny Hsu, who shot 78, and freshmen Owen Quinn and Chris Pollan who shot 79 and 84, respectively.
 
Lafayette was led by three players who shot 76 on Wednesday: James Croney, Chad Bell and Will Halamandaris.
 
Next up for both teams will be the Patriot League Championship at the Bucknell Golf Course in Lewisburg, Pa. The first two rounds of the 54-hole tournament will be played Saturday with the final round set for Sunday.
