BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh softball team prepares for its next group of games this weekend as the Mountain Hawks head to Raleigh, N.C. for the Homewood Suites by Hilton RDU/RTP Invitational, hosted by North Carolina State, Friday to Sunday. Lehigh's first game will be Friday at 10 a.m.

After going 3-2 last weekend in the Citrus Classic in Orlando, Florida, the Mountain Hawks will have another full slate of opponents. Lehigh's first matchup will be against Fordham, which Lehigh has a long history against. Since 1990 the teams have faced off 27 times, and Lehigh holds the series lead 17-10. Most recently, Fordham squeezed out a 1-0 victory over the Mountain Hawks last year in the Bronx. Fordham is 10-4 this season, including impressive wins over Baylor, Tulsa and Northwestern on its opening weekend.

The Mountain Hawks' second game Friday will be against host North Carolina State. The Wolfpack have faced multiple top-ranked teams so far and will come into the invitational 3-12. N.C. State has lost five straight but owns a win over Patriot League member Boston University. Lehigh has lost both matchups against the Wolfpack in program history, most recently losing 4-3 in 2014 in the Diamond 9 Classic. The Lehigh-N.C. State game is set for a 2:30 p.m. start.

Lehigh will open its Saturday competition against Rutgers, which comes into the invitational 1-8 this year, with the victory coming last weekend against Boston College. Rutgers and Lehigh have split their 12 meetings over program history, but Lehigh won the most recent matchup — 10-5 last season in the USF Spring Break Tournament. This game will start at 10 a.m.

The Mountain Hawks will have two more games — one later Saturday and one on Sunday — which will be determined based on the standings from the round-robin.

Lehigh's strong showing last weekend was highlighted by senior outfielder Ashley Cole. Cole finished the weekend 7-of-14 at with five runs, a home run, three RBIs and two stolen bases. The Purcellville, Virginia, native opened the weekend with a 3-for-3 showing, including a three-run home run in the Mountain Hawks' 9-1 win over Morgan State.

She reached base via a hit, walk or error in seven of eight plate appearances on Friday and scored the tying run in the sixth inning of Friday's 2-1 win over Ball State.  On Saturday, Cole scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning of Lehigh's 9-4 win over Georgia Southern. Cole also had a hit and a stolen base in the team's final game of the weekend against No. 3 Florida. It was Lehigh's only hit against the Gators.

Freshman infielder/outfielder Reva Alderman led Lehigh with six RBIs in five games, hitting a grand slam in the second at-bat of her career in the win over Morgan State. She recorded an RBI single in the sixth inning against Ball State, which tied the game 1-1. Alderman also drove in Cole with the go-ahead run in the seventh inning against Georgia Southern. She was one of the Mountain Hawks' two base runners against Florida, drawing a leadoff walk in the second inning.

Pitching-wise, senior Christine Campbell went 2-0 in four appearances last weekend, finishing with a 2.00 ERA in 14 innings and recording 14 strikeouts and two walks. Freshman Parker Boyd picked up the win against Ball State, closing out the game after sophomore Emily Sorem pitched the first six innings.

Live stats and live video of all games at the Homewood Suites By Hilton RDU/RTP Invitational will be available on N.C. State's web site, GoPack.com.

Following this five-game stretch, Lehigh will play 12 straight games in California over spring break, beginning with a five-game stint at the Stanford Easton Classic March 10-12.
