Mountain Hawks fall 5-0 to No. 3 Florida to close out Citrus Classic

ORLANDO, Fla. – Two highly-decorated Florida pitchers combined on a one-hitter and while the Lehigh softball team held its own, the third-ranked Gators pushed across five runs to defeat the Mountain Hawks 5-0 in Lehigh's final game at the Citrus Classic Sunday morning.
Florida's Kelly Barnhill and Delanie Gourley combined for 15 strikeouts and held the Mountain Hawks without a hit through the first six innings to hand Lehigh its second straight loss. The Mountain Hawks finish their second weekend of play at 3-2.
Lehigh had just two base runners on the day as freshman Reva Alderman drew a four-pitch walk to open the second inning and senior Ashley Cole broke up the no-hit bid with a single to left field leading off the seventh.
The Gators (15-1) took a 1-0 lead on a Jordan Roberts two-out single in the top of the first inning. Jamie Hoover led off the fourth inning with a solo home run off sophomore Emily Sorem and Florida tacked on another run in the fifth on an Amanda Lorenz RBI single to take a 3-0 lead. Florida tacked on two more runs in the seventh on a RBI single and a Lehigh throwing error.
Sorem took the loss (0-1) allowing three runs on five hits in four innings with a walk and three strikeouts. Senior Christine Campbell allowed one earned run over the final three innings.
Barnhill walked one and struck out 11 in four hitless innings to earn the win for Florida, while Gourley fanned four in three innings of relief.
Next up for the Mountain Hawks will be five games in three days at the Homewood Suites by Hilton RDU/RTP Invitational, March 3-5 in Raleigh, N.C. On Friday March 3, Lehigh will face Fordham at 10 a.m. and North Carolina State at 2:30 p.m.
