BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh seniors Lucas Warning and Courtney Avery have been named the Patriot League's Field Athletes of the Week for their performances at last Friday's Bucknell Tune-Up, in the eighth and final week of the season leading up to this weekend's Patriot League Championships.
Â
Warning broke his own school record for the third time this season with his shot put of 18.25 meters. The mark bested his previous school record by 16 centimeters, as he took home first place out of 15 competitors. He now owns the 10 furthest indoor shot puts in program history and the top three in the Patriot League this season. The score also ranks at 33rd in the nation this season.
Â
Avery won the high jump with her season-best leap of 1.79 meters, just two centimeters shy of her own school record, which she set at last year's Patriot League Championships. The jump is also the furthest in the PL this season and was her seventh win in eight meets on the year. The mark is ranked 25th in Division I this season.
Â
Lehigh has had at least one major weekly award winner in all eight weeks of the season, and at least two winners in six of the eight weeks. Lehigh has won 17 weekly awards this season, eight on the women's side and nine more from the men, all of which are the most in the Patriot League. Individually, the honor is Wanring's fourth of the year, the most of any male in the league. Avery has now been honored with a major award three times, putting her in a four-way tie for the lead on the women's side, which includes teammate Maura Henderson.
Â
The Patriot League Championships will take place this Friday through Sunday in Boston.
