BETHLEHEM, Pa. – A pair of Lehigh cross country runners have been voted Academic All-Patriot League, the league announced on Friday. Senior Patrick Reilly collects his third academic all-league honor in as many years, and sophomore Jeffrey Kirshenbaum collects his first academic all-league honor. Both student-athletes currently have cumulative grade-point averages of 4.0.
A senior political science major, Reilly is a six-time Dean's List honoree and a six-time member of the Patriot League's Academic Honor Roll. He has also received the Faculty Athletics Council Award six times and is a five-time member of the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team. This is the third time he has been voted to the academic all-league team. Athletically, Reilly has led the Lehigh pack in five of his six races this season. He placed 25th at the Patriot League Championships last weekend and earlier this year at Paul Short, set the Lehigh 8K Goodman Course record with a time of 23:57.0.
Kirshenbaum takes home his first academic all-league accolade in his first year of eligibility for the award. In addition to obtaining a 4.0 GPA in the first two semesters of his college career, he is a two-time member of the Dean's List, Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, and the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team. He is also a two-time recipient of the Faculty Athletics Council Award. Kirshenbaum has had a solid sophomore campaign thus far, most recently having led the Lehigh pack at the Patriot League Championships with an 11th place overall finish to earn Second Team All-Patriot League honors. This season, he has also set the sixth (24:30.8) and ninth (24:37.6) fastest times ever by a Lehigh runner on the Goodman Campus Course.
The academic all-league team is voted upon by the league's sports information directors, and voters are not allowed to vote for their school's nominees.
Both Reilly and Kirshenbaum will be among the Mountain Hawks competing at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals at Goodman Campus next Friday in an attempt to qualify for the national championships.
