Ross named preseason All-Patriot League; Mountain Hawks picked fourth

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's basketball senior Kahron Ross has been named preseason All-Patriot League while the Mountain Hawks were picked fourth in the preseason poll, as announced by the league on Wednesday. Ross has been an All-League honoree following each of his first three seasons. He enters his senior campaign needing just 46 assists to become Lehigh's all-time career leader in that category and only 27 points to reach 1,000 in his career. He looks to lead a Mountain Hawks' squad coming off two straight appearances in the Patriot League Championship Game.

Joining Ross on the preseason All-Patriot League team is Nana Foulland and Zach Thomas of Bucknell, Andre Walker of Loyola and Shawn Anderson of Navy. Ross is currently third among active players in the nation in career assists (533). He's rapidly approaching Mackey McKnight's school record (578), along with the Patriot League record, held by Navy's Jave Meade (599). The 2014-15 Patriot League Rookie of the Year was named third team All-League as a freshman, earning a spot on the first team as a sophomore and second team as a junior. For his career, Ross is averaging 10.5 points, 2.9 rebounds and 5.7 assists. Last season, Ross averaged 9.8 points per game while adding 164 assists. Ross' 194 assists as a junior is Lehigh's single-season school record.

The Mountain Hawks were selected fourth in the preseason poll with 108 points. Bucknell was predicted first with 162 points, followed by Boston University (141) and Navy (120). After Lehigh was Colgate in fifth (104), Loyola in sixth (78), Army West Point in seventh (66), Holy Cross (48) in eighth, American in ninth (39) and Lafayette in 10th (27).

Ross will look to lead a young, but talented team in 2017-18 which also includes junior Kyle Leufroy and sophomores Pat Andree and Jordan Cohen. Last season, Leufroy finished third on the Mountain Hawks, averaging 11.4 points per game last season, while Andree scored 6.5 points per game and Cohen averaged 5.4.

In 2016-17, Lehigh finished in the top four in the final standings and hosted a Patriot League Quarterfinal for the seventh time in the last eight seasons, reaching the league title game for the fourth time in the last eight years.

The season opener is set for Saturday, Nov. 11 at Marist before the Mountain Hawks return home to host Monmouth on Tuesday, Nov. 14 and Siena on Friday, Nov. 17, the night before Lehigh football hosts archrival Lafayette.
