BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Highlighted by a career-high 36 points against American Sunday, Lehigh men's basketball senior Tim Kempton was named Patriot League Player of the Week, as announced on Monday. Kempton posted a double-double in each game last week, finishing the week with 54 points and 22 rebounds. The award marked his fifth this season and eighth in his career.
Â
Kempton began the week with 18 points and 11 rebounds against Loyola Thursday before breaking out with 36 points and 11 boards vs. American Sunday. He scored 22 of those points in the second half, helping the Mountain Hawks fend off American's second-half charge. Kempton finished the game shooting 11-of-17 from the field, including 14-of-18 from the free throw line, tying a Stabler Arena record with his 18 free throw attempts.
Â
On Sunday, Kempton became the first Lehigh men's basketball player to eclipse 35 points since C.J. McCollum had 35 on Nov. 19, 2012 vs. Fairfield. Kempton's 36 points were the most by a Lehigh player since McCollum scored 42 on Nov. 26, 2010 at Kent State. Kempton shot 64.3 percent from the field for the week and 77.3 percent from the free throw line. Kempton now has nine double-doubles this season and 42 in his career. He is averaging 21.7 points and 10.4 rebounds for the season, good for 16th and 20th nationally, respectively.
Â
Kempton and the Mountain Hawks will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Bucknell for a big showdown against the Bison. Opening tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
