BETHLEHEM, Pa. – For the fourth time in as many weeks, the Lehigh men's and women's track and field teams have had at least one athlete earn a weekly honor from the Patriot League. Sophomore Maura Henderson has been named the league's Female Track Athlete of the Week for the second straight week, and senior Lucas Warning takes home the Male Field Athlete of the Week honor.
Â
Henderson took home first place in the 3,000 meter run at Saturday's Angry Birds Challenge at Rauch Fieldhouse. Her time of 9:47.92 is the fastest 3K time in the Patriot League this season and ranks 24th best in the nation. Henderson powered ahead of the rest of the field, finishing nearly 31 seconds ahead of the second place finisher and broke her previous personal record by 6.90 seconds. The weekly award is her second of the season after she was honored last week for her second place finish in the mile run at the Wagner Invite on January 6.
Â
Warning wins his second Field Athlete of the Week award after another historic weekend for the senior shot putter. Warning broke his own school record for the second time this season, becoming the first athlete in school history to top the 18-meter mark in the indoor shot put. His heave of 18.09 meters placed him second in the event and currently sits as the 16th best shot put in the country this season. He has now reset the Lehigh indoor shot put record five times in the last year, a record that had previously stood for 44 years. He now holds the four furthest shot puts in the Patriot League this season (17.93m, 17.43m, 17.42m, 18.09m), with the next closest being 16.82m.
Â
Lehigh has now won 10 weekly awards this indoor season (five for each male and female), the most of any Patriot League school.
Â
Lehigh will next host rival Lafayette at Rauch Fieldhouse this Saturday afternoon.
