Mountain Hawks host Colgate for three game series now beginning Friday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh softball team resumes Patriot League play this weekend when the Mountain Hawks welcome the Colgate Raiders to Leadership Park for a three-game series.

Due to the threat of inclement weather on Saturday, the series will begin Friday with a single game beginning at 3:30 p.m. Saturday's doubleheader is currently on as scheduled but could be moved to Sunday if the weather prohibits games from being played Saturday.

Lehigh saw its six game winning streak end Tuesday in the Bronx, N.Y. as junior Christine Campbell and freshman Emily Sorem were outdueled by two Fordham pitchers in a 1-0 Ram win. Campbell allowed just three hits and one second-inning run but the Rams limited the Mountain Hawks to just one hit, an Alexis Watanabe single, to drop Lehigh to 21-8 on the season.

Last weekend, Lehigh's three-game Patriot League series at Boston University was postponed due to inclement weather in Boston. The Mountain Hawks are 3-0 in league play thanks to a three-game sweep of rival Lafayette March 26-27 at Leadership Park.

Senior Morgan Decker continues to lead Lehigh offensively, with a .458 batting average, five home runs and 27 RBIs. With a RBI double erased last weekend due to the postponement at BU, Decker enters the weekend at 199 career hits.  In league games, freshman Nicole Yozzo has six hits to lead Lehigh while senior Jessica Calvini went 4-for-11 with four RBIs against the Leopards. Sophomore Carolyn Wright added four hits and three RBIs in three games against Lafayette.

Campbell has allowed just two runs on 10 hits over her last 24.2 innings of work, spanning four games to lower her ERA to 3.04. She has a team-leading 12 wins while Sorem leads Lehigh with a 2.77 ERA and 66 strikeouts.

Colgate comes in at 4-16 overall and 1-1 in the league. The Raiders got two of their three games in with Army West Point last weekend, winning Saturday's first game 2-1 before dropping the nightcap 7-4. The series finale was postponed due to weather.

Katie Bushee leads the Raiders with a .328 batting average and 10 RBIs while Brigit Ieuter leads the Colgate pitching staff with three victories, 27 strikeouts and a 3.05 ERA.

Colgate went 9-9 in the Patriot League last season and went 1-2 in the league tournament.

Lehigh swept three games from Colgate last year at Eaton Street Field and has won the last 17 games in the series.

All three games in the series will be broadcast on the Patriot League Network, beginning with Friday's opener at 3:30 p.m.

Following the Colgate series, Lehigh will host Manhattan in a Wednesday doubleheader before traveling to Army West Point for three Patriot League games next weekend.
