BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After a hard-earned doubleheader split at Boston University on Wednesday, the Lehigh softball team concludes its five-game road swing with another key Patriot League series this weekend at Bucknell. The Mountain Hawks enter the weekend leading Army West Point by two games in the loss column and are three games up on the Bison and Terriers.

Lehigh was two-hit by BU's Melanie Russell in a 2-0 game one loss on Wednesday but finally got to Russell in the nightcap as a two-out, two-run single by sophomore Katie Schultz lifted the Mountain Hawks to a 4-2, eight-inning win. Junior Vicky Lattanzio and senior Jessica Calvini added RBIs while freshman Emily Sorem allowed just one earned run in eight innings of work in the circle to earn the victory.

Senior Alexis Watanabe had three hits in the doubleheader, while Lattanzio, Calvini and senior Morgan Decker each had two hits in the nightcap as Lehigh improved to 31-12 overall and 9-2 in the league with the game-two victory.

Decker continues to lead Lehigh with a .423 batting average, 16 doubles, six home runs and 34 RBIs. Lattanzio's RBI double on Wednesday gave her 31 RBIs for the season. Calvini leads Lehigh with nine RBIs in Patriot League games while Decker's solid showing in Boston upped her league-only average to .382.

Sorem and junior Christine Campbell have posted relatively equal numbers in the circle. Sorem leads Lehigh with 93 strikeouts and has a 13-5 record and 2.48 ERA, while Campbell is just .01 better at 2.47 and leads the Mountain Hawks with 17 victories. Campbell has thrown a team-best 147.1 innings in the circle and is now 6-1 with a 0.98 ERA in seven league appearances. Sorem is 3-1 with a 2.01 ERA in league play.

Bucknell will wrap-up its Patriot League regular season schedule when Lehigh visits. The Bison were runners-up in each of the last two tournaments and have posted a 26-19 overall record and 10-5 league mark so far this season. Bucknell is coming off a three-game sweep at Colgate last weekend where the Bison outscored the Raiders 19-3. Of the Bison's five league losses, one came against Holy Cross, two were at the hands of Army West Point and the remaining two were to Boston University.

Sophomore Meghan Kovac has been the catalyst for the Bucknell offense. Kovac is tied with Decker for the league lead with six home runs and has surpassed Decker for top honors in doubles (18) and RBIs (39). She has a .410 batting average.

Amanda Fazio has been a dual threat for the Bison. She sports a .368 batting average with 31 runs scored and has also been Bucknell's top pitcher with a 14-9 record, 1.72 ERA and 130 strikeouts, all tops on the Bison staff. Fazio and Dana Nielsen have both thrown over 100 innings for Bucknell, while Cindy Cherness and Lara Bean round out the four person pitching staff.

Lehigh posted a 5-0 record against Bucknell last season, sweeping three games at Kaufman Field and then beating the Bison twice in the Patriot League Tournament. Calvini's seventh-inning RBI single gave Lehigh a 5-4 win in the winner's bracket game. The Mountain Hawks then won the title with an 8-0 win in the championship round.

This weekend's series begins with a doubleheader Saturday at noon from Becker Field, followed by a single game Sunday, also beginning at noon.

Lehigh will close out the regular season with five games at Leadership Park next week as the Mountain Hawks will host Delaware for a May 4 doubleheader before hosting Holy Cross for three games May 7-8.
