Lehigh Wraps Up Weekend at Philly College Classic

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Lehigh men's track and field team continued its opening weekend of the outdoor season at the Philadelphia College Classic on Saturday at Penn's Franklin Field. Freshman Ryan Givens and junior Lucas Warning led the Mountain Hawks by combining for three runner up finishes.
Givens placed second in both the high jump (1.96 meters) and long jump (6.58m) in his collegiate outdoor debut. Warning also had a runner up showing on the afternoon, finishing second in the shot put (16.72m), just four centimeters out of first place. Christopher Foley also took part in the shot put and captured sixth place (13.62m).
Warning also competed in the discus for the first time in his college career, capturing fifth place (49.33m) overall out of 15 competitors.
On the track, senior Andrew Culkin finished third overall in the 400 hurdles, crossing the finish line in 58.55 seconds. Sophomores John Tolbert and David Mugavero both competed in the 2,000 steeplechase for the first time in their careers, where Tolbert raced to a fourth place finish (6:21.19) and Mugavero placed sixth (6:54.93).
Christopher Mascetti led the way for the Mountain Hawks in the 800 meter run, finishing in ninth place (2:01.99), four spots ahead of teammate, Kyle Berman.
Evan Hardy turned in a solid 12th place time of 4:06.92 in the 1,500 meter run. Mascetti and Berman were close behind in 14th and 15th, respectively.
Kyle Leonard set a new personal record with his team-leading 11th place time of 8:48.11 in the 3,000 meter run. Henry Paul also competed in the event and set a new outdoor PR of 8:57.51 to finish 15th overall.
Freshman Beilin Zhang made his collegiate debut by sprinting to a 16th place finish in the 100 meter dash (12.13).
Lehigh will return to the track next Friday for the two-day Lafayette 7-Way Invitational in Easton, Pa.
