Lehigh Kicks Off Outdoor Season at USF Bulls Invitational

TAMPA, Fla. – The Lehigh men's and women's track and field teams opened up their outdoor season at the USF Bulls Invitational in Florida on Thursday. Several members of both teams made the trek down to the Sunshine State for the two day event.

Gabrielle Wardle competed on Thursday in the long jump, turning in a fifth place finish out of 22 competitors with a new outdoor PR of 5.50m. Kaitlyn Toman (17th/3.25m), Tyler Bannister and Grace Coffman also competed on Thursday in the pole vault.

On Friday, Liyala Dickens led the way for Lehigh in the 100 meter dash, finishing first in her heat and 20th overall in 12.81 seconds. Leah Ferguson (23rd/12.90) and Katie Altpeter (30th/13.69) also competed in the sprint event.

Dickens later competed in the 200m final and finished in 25th place overall. In the 100 meter hurdles, Katie Hatler (21st/15.39), Gabrielle Wardle (22nd/15.66) and Tyler Bannister (24th/16.85) each represented Lehigh, with Wardle setting a new PR in the event.

Stacie Nadel (11:38.49) raced into the top five in her first collegiate 3,000 steeplechase, placing fourth out of nine competitors.

Laura Barnes added a top 10 finish in the 1,500 meter run, placing seventh out of 51 finishers in PR time (4:42.60). Stephanie Hayes placed 19th and Ashleigh Thurston came in 34th in the 1500. Barnes' day continued with another solid performance in the 800 meter run, where she placed 14th (PR-2:17.90).

Courtney Avery paced Lehigh in the high jump, leaping and clearing the bar in a sixth place tie of 1.65 meters, with Gabrielle Wardle placing 15th (1.55m).

On the men's side, Michael Camera and Trevor Knowles took flight in Thursday's long jump, with Camera finishing in 12th place (6.38m) with a new PR, and Knowles following in 17th place overall (6.09m).

On Friday, Camera led the way for Lehigh in the 100 meter dash, placing 24th overall (11.29 seconds). Robert Hugin raced to a 13th place finish in the 400 hurdles (56.77). Knowles and Hugin also both competed in the 110 meter hurdles.

The first week of outdoor competition continues on Saturday when the Mountain Hawks will take part in the Philadelphia College Classic at Franklin Field.
