Top Two Patriot League Teams Square Off as Lehigh Travels to American

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh volleyball team will travel to American University on Friday night in a battle of the top two teams in the Patriot League standings. The match is slated for a 7 p.m. start at Bender Arena.
Live video will be available through the Patriot league Network and live stats will be provided by American.
Lehigh sits in second place in the Patriot League standings with a conference record of 4-1 and an overall mark of 8-10. The Mountain Hawks opened PL play with a four-match win streak before having that streak snapped on the road last Saturday with a 3-0 loss to Colgate.
American, the Patriot League preseason favorite, currently sits on top of the PL standings with a record of 5-0 in league play and an overall record of 15-6. The Eagles are currently on a six-match win streak and picked up their latest victory on Tuesday night with a 3-1 win at home against Navy.
Lehigh and American are both 3-1 against common opponents this season. Each have wins over Bucknell, Navy and Lafayette, to go with a loss to Pittsburgh. Both teams earned sweeps over Lafayette and both defeated Navy by the score of 3-1.
The Eagles of have dominated the all-time series since the first meeting with the Mountain Hawks in 1979. American owns a 31-5 record against Lehigh and has won the last three-straight meetings, including a victory in the Patriot League Tournament Championship in 2014.
Lehigh's last victory over American was in 2014 on a 3-2 victory at home in the last regular-season finale. American's last loss to Lehigh on its home floor was in 2012 when LU claimed a 3-2 victory.
