BETHLEHEM, Pa. ā Following a three-week break, the Lehigh women's golf team returns to the links as the Mountain Hawks host the Lehigh Invitational beginning Sunday on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club. Lehigh welcomes eight teams for the two-day, 36-hole tournament that begins Sunday morning and will conclude on Monday.
Ā
Saucon Valley Country Club, founded in 1920, has grown from 18 holes and a clubhouse to become one of the largest private clubs in North America. It encompasses 800 acres and consists of four courses, including the Weyhill Course, Old Course, Grace Course and Short Course. The Grace Course opened with nine holes in the fall of 1953 with the second nine opened for play in 1958. Named for Eugene Gifford Grace (Lehigh Class of 1899), longtime president and chairman of Bethlehem Steel, the Grace Course measures 6,012 yards from the ladies tees and features greens nearly twice the size of those on the Old Course but without the severe contours.
Ā
The Lehigh Invitational will be the Mountain Hawks' fourth fall tournament. Lehigh's best showing so far this fall was a fourth place finish at the Tignanelli Towson Invitational. The Mountain Hawks last competed at the Princeton Invitational, Oct. 1-2 in New Jersey. Senior Elizabeth McGarrigle has been Lehigh's top finisher in two of its first three fall tournaments, while junior Megan Moylan led the Mountain Hawks at Towson.
Ā
Last year, Lehigh finished second to Princeton at the Lehigh Invitational, with McGarrigle and Nicole Feierberg '16 tying for sixth place to lead the Mountain Hawks.
Ā
In addition to Lehigh, this year's field features Bucknell, Georgetown, Holy Cross, Monmouth, Navy, Niagara, Siena and Saint Francis (Pa.).
Ā
Lehigh will play with Navy and Georgetown, going off the first tee beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday. Saint Francis, Monmouth and Bucknell will go off the first tee beginning at 10:20 a.m. Holy Cross, Niagara and Siena will go off the tenth tee at 9:30 a.m. and will be followed by three groups of individuals. Monday's final round will also begin at 9:30 a.m. with pairings going off both the first and tenth tees based on the team standings.
Ā
The Mountain Hawks will wrap-up their fall schedule next weekend when they travel to Bedminster, N.J. for the Pirate Invitational.Ā
