
Men's Track and Field Competes at Villanova Open

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The Lehigh men's track and field program competed in the Villanova Open on Friday afternoon at the new Ocean Breeze Track and Field Complex in New York City. The Mountain Hawks finished fifth out of 10 teams at the meet, accumulating 58.5 points, finishing between Maryland-Eastern Shore and Wagner. Villanova took the top spot with 99.5 points.
Junior Lucas Warning led the way for the Brown and White with a 16.85 meter, second place performance in the shot put, a distance that was 2.47 meters farther than his next closest competitor. Freshman Alexander Rodgers also had a strong showing for Lehigh, finishing seventh (13.58 meters) in the event that featured 23 participants.
Sophomore Michael Camera leapt to a fifth place finish in the triple jump (13.43 meters), and fellow sophomore Trevor Knowles pole vaulted his way to a third place tie, clearing the bar at 4.60 meters. Junior Daniel Boardman was the only Mountain Hawk to compete in the long jump and leapt to an 11th place distance of 6.55 meters.
On the track, freshman Clay Stabolepszy turned in a seventh place showing out of 47 competitors in the 800 meter run, crossing the line in 1:59.07. Junior Robert Smith followed, running to an 11th place mark of 2:00.15. Junior Seamus Cullinane was strong in the one mile run, finishing 17th overall in the field of 48, crossing the line with a time of 4:30.68, just three places ahead of sophomore James Chappell (4:32.87).
Junior Alexander Fitzgerald led the way for the Mountain Hawks in the 3,000 meter run, placing 12th overall in 8:52.86. Junior Christopher Del Rossi competed in the 200 meter dash, finishing 27th overall out out 58 competitors. Freshman Emre Soybas also competed and placed 28th overall in the 400 meter dash.
Lehigh will return home next Saturday to host the annual Angry Birds Invitational at Rauch Fieldhouse. The day's action is scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m. Complete meet information can be found by clicking here.
