BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh men's and women's track and field programs will compete at Rauch Fieldhouse for the second time this season on Saturday as they host the Angry Birds Invitational. Penn, Monmouth, St. Joseph's and Winthrop are among the other schools joining the Mountain Hawks at the event. The day will kick off at 10 a.m. with the field events, with track events following at 11 a.m.
Last Friday, Lehigh helped open the brand new Ocean Breeze Track in Staten Island, N.Y. as part of the Villanova Open. Junior Lucas Warning led the way for the Brown and White with a 16.85 meter, second place performance in the shot put, a distance that was 2.47 meters further than his next closest competitor. Sophomore Michael Camera leapt to a fifth place finish in the triple jump (13.43 meters), and fellow sophomore Trevor Knowles pole vaulted his way to a third place tie, clearing the bar at 4.60 meters. Knowles set a school record in the heptathlon (5,029) in Lehigh's last competition at Rauch Fieldhouse, the unscored Fast Times Before Finals meet.
The Lehigh men captured third place out of four teams at last year's Angry Birds Invite, finishing behind first-place Monmouth and four points behind Penn.
The women's draw at Villanova featured four third place finishes, including Clare Severe in the 800 meter run, Laura Barnes in the mile run, Courtney Avery in the high jump and Michaela Bubak in the weight throw. Maura Henderson (3,000 meter run) and Amanda Youngblood (weight throw) each added fourth place tallies, while Kaitlyn Toman and Brenna Clark both registered fifth place finishes in the pole vault and mile run, respectively. Overall, the team finished fifth out of 11 teams, finishing 13 points behind fourth place Delaware and nine points ahead of sixth place Morgan State.
Last year's women's team finished five points in back of first-place Monmouth, and seven points ahead of Penn, while Saint Joseph's rounded out the field in fourth.
Following the Angry Birds, Lehigh's next meet will be right back at Rauch Fieldhouse on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 2 p.m. with the annual dual meet against Lafayette.
