Arita Selected as Patriot League Rookie of the Week

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh men's cross country team picked up its first individual award of the season on Monday, as freshman Brian Arita was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week. Arita finished 13th overall with a time of 27:11.95 at Saturday's dual meet against archrival Lafayette. He was the top finishing freshman in the 8K event, in which the Mountain Hawks swept the top seven scoring spots from the Leopards, en route to a 15-50 win. Overall, Lehigh took 13 of the top 14 spots in the race.
In his collegiate debut two weeks ago at the Lehigh Invitational, Arita finished seventh overall with a time of 18:50.9.
Sophomore Scott Mason received honorable mention laurels from the league in this week's awards after winning his first individual title in Saturday's 8K race, crossing the finish line in 26:23.4. On the women's side, grad student Shannon Wright also garnered honorable mention accolades after she collected the first individual title of her career in the 6K race, finishing in 23:21.77.
The Lehigh men's and women's team return to action in two weeks on Friday, Oct. 2 when the Mountain Hawks host the 42nd annual Paul Short Run on the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course.
