Vaclav Malek competed in the high jump at the 2005 Outdoor National Championship, while Lauren Barrett made it to the big show in the javelin in 2003. Mahalsky is the first Patriot Leaguer since Army West Point's John Mickowski in 2007-08 and sixth all-time to make both the NCAA Cross Country and Outdoor Championships in the same season.
Â
Mahalsky is guaranteed at least Honorable Mention All-America honors. First Team All-America status goes to the top eight finishers of the 10,000 meter run, while Second Team All-America honors are handed out to the ninth to 16th place finishers. Honorable Mention honors are given to the remaining finishers.
