Â
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's golf team will compete in the third annual Patriot League Championship this weekend at the Naval Academy Golf Club in Annapolis, Md. Last year, the Mountain Hawks' Crystal Lee took home the individual Patriot League title after she birdied the 18th hole, the final hole of her collegiate career.
Â
Now in its third year, the Patriot League Championship moves to Annapolis after Bucknell and Lehigh hosted the first two years. The two-day tournament features 36 holes Saturday beginning at 8:30 a.m. followed by 18 holes Sunday with an 8:30 a.m. start. The Naval Academy Golf Club is a par 72 that will play at 6,085 yards. Â The Mountain Hawks previewed the course when they played at the Chesapeake Bay Invitational, finishing fourth in a 15 team field.
Â
The championship field expands to six teams this year with the addition of Richmond. Lehigh will join Boston University, Bucknell, Holy Cross, host Navy, and league newcomer Richmond. Boston University was chosen as the preseason favorites while the Mountain Hawks were picked second in the polls. Bucknell is the defending champion.Â
Â
With the addition of Richmond as the sixth member in Patriot League women's golf, the team champion  now receives an automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals. Lehigh won the inaugural team title in 2013 and has had both previous individual champions in Chelsea Michalek '13 and Lee.
Â
Lehigh is coming off its third top five finish of the year after the Mountain Hawks tied for second in the Red Flash Invitational earlier this week. The Mountain Hawks completed the tournament with a score of 942 (322-305-315).
Â
The Mountain Hawks are led by senior captain Kelly Moylan, a two-time All-Patriot League selection. Lehigh also returns junior All-Patriot League performer and the 2013 Rookie of the Year Nicole Feierberg.
Â
Six golfers from each school will compete for each team, with the low four scores in each round used for team scoring. Lehigh's six scoring players include Moylan, Feierberg, seniors Melanie Dickens and Alyssa Scheyd, and freshmen Casey Farmer and Megan Moylan.
Â
Kelly Moylan and Feierberg tied for Lehigh's best finish at the Red Flash Invitational, as they tied for fifth place. Moylan led the Mountain Hawks in four other tournaments, including the Chesapeake Bay Invitational where she and sister Megan Moylan both tied for ninth.
Â
The top five individuals will be awarded first team All-Patriot League status while the second five individuals will be on the second team. The individual champion earns Most Outstanding Player honors and the top freshman finisher is the Most Outstanding Rookie. Coaches will select the Patriot League Coach of the Year.
