Lehigh blanks Loyola 7-0 for first league win

BALTIMORE – The Lehigh men's tennis team bounced back from Saturday's loss to Navy with a convincing 7-0 win over Loyola Sunday at the McClure Tennis Center. The Mountain Hawks swept the three doubles matches and six singles matches to improve to 10-7 overall and 1-1 in the Patriot League.
Lehigh opened the match by winning all three doubles matches. The Mountain Hawks' No. 3 team of freshman Jack Petersen and sophomore Graham Lehman won 8-2 over Alex Castro and John Ferruzzi and Lehigh's No. 2 team of senior Mitchell Petersen and sophomore Ethan Bogard clinched the doubles point with an 8-1 win over Reid Burch and Brett Schriver.
At the top doubles flight Lehigh's team of senior Ben Gilman and Jeremy Kochman made it a doubles sweep with an 8-5 victory.
Lehigh continued its strong play in singles, winning five of the six matches in straight sets. Kochman extended Lehigh's lead to 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Jordan Kuchta at the No. 2 flight and Bogard put the Mountain Hawks up by three with a win over Blest Jones at No.5.
Mitchell Petersen delivered the clinching point for Lehigh with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Burch at the No. 4 flight.
Gilman, Jack Petersen and sophomore Tyler Hansen added singles wins for Lehigh with Petersen winning a ten point tiebreak at No. 3 once the match had been clinched.
The Mountain Hawks will play two more league matches next weekend when they visit Army Saturday at 1 p.m. and then Bucknell Monday at 3 p.m.
