Women first, men second as Lehigh wins three more event titles on day two of PLC

Day Two Results
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Lehigh track and field teams wrapped up the second day of the indoor Patriot League Championships Saturday at Navy's Wesley A. Brown Field House with three more event titles as the Mountain Hawk women remain in first place in the team race and the men hold down second. Freshman Trevor Knowles earned the heptathlon title, while senior Adeolu Adesida and sophomore Courtney Avery finished atop the podium in the high jump.
"I'm very happy with all of the efforts today," said head coach Matt Utesch. "I think we're ahead on some of our points from where I expected. We're asking them all to step up and be heroic and that's exactly what they're doing."
The Lehigh women hold onto the top spot in the team race with 57 points, while Bucknell (45.50), Holy Cross (34.50), Boston University (27.50) and Navy (27) round out the top five.
On the men's side, Navy leads the team race with 73.50 points, while Lehigh follows with 48 team points. Bucknell (45.25), Boston University (27) and Army (17) round out the top five.
Knowles wrapped up the final three events of the heptathlon with a trio of top-three finishes to complete the event with a personal-best mark of 4,906 points and grab ten team points for the Mountain Hawks. He earned first place in the pole vault (4.55m), second in the 1,000 meter run (2:50.22) and third in the 60 meter hurdles (8.89).
"Trevor had a Herculean effort today," said Utesch. "He did a phenomenal job and had PRs all over the place. I'm so happy for him."
Adesida claimed his third-straight indoor high jump title with a 2.09 meter leap. Sophomore Daniel Boardman followed in fourth place with a jump of 2.04 meters as the two Mountain Hawks combined to grab 15 points.
"Lou won his fifth overall high jump championship and third-straight indoor championship," said Utesch. "I couldn't be more happy or proud of him."
Senior Derek Gaul earned runner-up status in the long jump with a leap of 7.01 meters, while Boardman finished seventh (6.68m) as the two combined to secure ten team points for the Mountain Hawks.
Senior Ryan Mahalsky earned third place in the 5,000 meter dash with a personal-best and IC4A-qualifying time of 14:18.41 to pick up six team points. Senior Benjamin Beauchamp took fifth place in the weight throw with a personal-best and IC4A-qualifying heave of 17.29 meters.
The group of seniors Michell Biler, Stephen Keith, Christopher Watson and Simon Voorhees grabbed sixth place in the 4x800 meter relay and secured three team points with a time of 7:37.88.
On the women's side, the Mountain Hawks swept the top three spots in the high jump to secure 24 points, led by Avery with an ECAC-qualifying leap of 1.75 meters. Junior Gabrielle Wardle followed with an ECAC-qualifying mark of 1.70 meters, while sophomore Brittany Le Jouan took third with a 1.65 meter jump.
Sophomore Katie Hatler heads into Sunday's final round of the 60 meter hurdles with the top-seeded time after racing to the finish line in an ECAC-qualifying and new personal-best clip of 8.77 in the semifinals.
Wardle was Lehigh's top finisher in the long jump, placing sixth with a leap of 5.36 meters and securing three team points. Freshman Amanda Youngblood set a new personal record in the weight throw with a 14.16 meter heave that was good for sixth place and three team points.
Senior Shannon Wright crushed her previous personal record time in the 5,000 meter dash with a clip of 17:30.90 that was good for seventh place and two team points.
The quartet of sophomore Marissa Karl, freshman Tyler Scanlin, and seniors Ingrid Simon and Victoria Mullane took home fourth place in the 4x800 meter relay after crossing the finish line in an ECAC-qualifying time of 9:03.55 to grab five team points for the Mountain Hawks.
