BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh men's cross country team held its annual team banquet this past Sunday, December 6, in the Wood Dining Room in Iacocca Hall. The team honored its three graduating seniors as well as reflected on the recently completed 2015 season.
Head coach Todd Etters presented three awards, beginning with the Athlete of the Year Award to Patrick Reilly. The sophomore arts and sciences major emerged as the team's front runner this season, leading the team in four of his six races. He finished first overall at the Lehigh Invitational and third at the Lafayette dual meet, helping lead the team to perfect scores in both meets. He was also the highest-placing Patriot League runner at both the Paul Short Gold and Princeton Invitational. His 14th place finish at the Patriot League Championships earned him Second Team All-League honors, in addition to his recognition as an Academic All-Patriot selection.
Senior Evan Hardy was honored with the team's Scholar Athlete Award. Hardy, majoring in mechanical engineering, boasts a 3.73 cumulative grade point average. Hardy led the Mountain Hawks with a 32nd place overall finish at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals this season, and finished second on the squad at the Patriot League Championships.
The Coaches' Award was presented to senior Evan Ward. The honor is awarded to a student-athlete who, in the eyes of the coaches, made significant contributions to the team in attitude, improvement or special leadership. Ward's highest finish this season came at the Lafayette dual meet when he came in second overall. He tallied a fifth place overall finish at the Lehigh Invitational and turned in a personal-best time of 25:03.7 at the Princeton Invitational.
This season marked the third time in four years Lehigh finished ninth at the Paul Short Run, tying their highest finish in the last 16 years. The squad also captured victories at the Lehigh Invitational and over rival Lafayette, as well as a fourth place mark at the Patriot League Championships.
