
Mountain Hawks host defending champ Bucknell on Senior Night Saturday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's soccer team will honor its seven seniors Saturday when the Mountain Hawks host defending Patriot League Champion Bucknell in an important Patriot League matchup at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and free video will be available on the Patriot League Network.
The Mountain Hawks face a quick turnaround after capturing a 2-0 win over Lafayette Thursday night at the Ulrich Sports Complex. It marked Lehigh's first victory over the Leopards in five years. Freshman Mark Forrest scored a goal in each half, while sophomore keeper Joe Bogan made five saves to secure the clean sheet. Lehigh moved into fourth place in the league standings with 12 points and a 4-3-0 Patriot League record thanks to the win. The Mountain Hawks improved to 10-5-1 overall with the victory and Lehigh has now secured back-to-back ten-plus win seasons for the first time since 2005-2006 after finishing the 2014 season with a 10-8-1 overall mark.
Forrest and senior Jamie Luchini are tied for the team lead with 19 points apiece. Forrest has recorded eight goals and three assists, while Luchini has scored seven goals and dished five assists. Bogan is 9-2-1 in goal this season with 56 saves, seven shutouts, a .824 save percentage and .90 GAA.
After starting the league season with an 0-2-2 record, Bucknell has rebounded nicely as of late, going 2-1 in its last three Patriot League matchups. The Bison most recently earned a dominant 5-0 victory over Loyola Wednesday. Chris Thorsheim scored two goals and Jesse Klug had three assists as the Bison scored their most goals in a league game in 42 years. Keeper Clarke Fox made three saves in goal to secure the shutout as Bucknell moved its league record to 2-3-2 and improved its overall mark to 6-6-4.
Thorsheim leads the team with 20 points behind eight goals and four assists, while Klug follows with 13 points (four goals, five assists). Fox and Mike Lansing have split time in goal. Fox has secured a 5-2-1 record with a .774 save percentage and 1.34 GAA, while Lansing is 1-4-3 with an .833 save percentage and 1.10 GAA. The Bison have outscored their opponents 27-21 this season.
Saturday's meeting between Lehigh and Bucknell will be the first since last year's Patriot League Quarterfinals when the fifth-seeded Bison upset fourth-seeded Lehigh 4-0 at the Ulrich Sports Complex. The Bison went on to win the Patriot League title. The Mountain Hawks won last year's regular-season meeting 2-1 in Lewisburg, Pa. Bucknell holds a slim 26-25-8 all-time advantage in the series.
Following Saturday's Senior Night contest, the Mountain Hawks will head to American at 12 p.m. next Saturday Nov. 7 for the regular-season finale.
