Lehigh Prepares to Host Halloween Swim Meet

10/29/2015 3:02:00 PM | Men's Swimming and Diving, Women's Swimming and Diving

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After a pair of road matchups last weekend, the Lehigh men's and women's swimming and diving programs will return home to take on Colgate this Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. The men will also face off against the New Jersey Institute of Technology at the meet.

The Colgate men (1-2, 1-0 Patriot) enter this weekend's tilt after winning their first meet of the season last Sunday against Holy Cross. The women (3-0) are off to a strong start with wins over St. Bonaventure, Holy Cross and a come from behind win over Bryant. The Raiders were picked to finish sixth (women) and seventh (men) in the Patriot League preseason poll. Senior Andrew Hacker was recognized by collegeswimming.com as the Patriot League's Male Swimmer of the Week on Oct. 22 after winning three freestyle events against St. Bonaventure.

NJIT has dropped their first three matchups of 2015 to Bryant, Binghamton and Army. The Highlanders finished last season's Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Championships in fourth place out of six teams. On Oct. 20, freshman Edward Parks was named the CCSA's Male Swimmer of the Week after picking up one win (200 fly) and two second place finishes (100 free/100 fly) the previous week.

The Lehigh women enter the weekend having won their last three meets in a row after an opening day loss to Boston University. All three of the women's wins last week came by at least 65 points. Junior Kaitlyn Ruffing was named the Patriot League Female Swimmer of the Week after winning three individual events and was a part of three wining relays in the team's two meets last weekend, which included a Rider pool record in the 50 yard freestyle. Kelly Carroll and Courtney Ferreira picked up two wins each at Rider. Courtney Patterson also garnered three individual wins on the weekend in the 1,000 (2x) and 500 yard freestyles.

The men are coming off a 1-2 weekend, with a two-point win over Bloomsburg. Jacob Moyar led the Mountain Hawks with a pair of wins and a second-place tally in the win. Jake Hassel won the 200 fly at West Chester on Friday and Jason Ewart totaled three wins - coming in the 100 and 200 (2x) yard backstrokes - in the two meets.

The men have not lost to Colgate or NJIT since they began competing regularly against the two schools during the 2008-09 season. The women suffered a narrow 147-139 defeat to Colgate in Hamilton, N.Y. last season.
