LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - The Lehigh men's swimming and diving team suffered a 193-95 setback at perennial regional power Rider on Saturday afternoon. The Mountain Hawks fall to 1-3 on the season, after splitting a dual meet on Friday against Bloomsburg and West Chester.
Junior Jacob Moyar and freshman Jason Ewart led the way for the Mountain Hawks, collecting two individual wins apiece on the afternoon, while Jamal Willis collected a victory of his own in the 50 yard freestyle.
For Willis, his 50 freestyle sprint time of 21.07 was a new pool record at Rider. He later added a fourth place finish in the 100 free, touching in at 48.29. Fellow classmate Justin White, was the highest Lehigh finisher in the 100 yard freestyle event, placing third in 47.43. White also came in third in the 50 yard freestyle.
Event four of the day saw Moyar pick up his first win of the meet, pacing the field in the 1,000 yard freestyle with a time of 9:41.13. He later tacked on a win in the 200 yard butterfly, touching the wall in 1:53.66. His teammate, junior Justin Kostelnik also scored points with a strong third place time of 1:56.83.
Ewart continued the strong start to his collegiate career with two more wins, coming in the 100 and 200 backstrokes finishing the 100 yarder in 52.75 and the 200 yard event in 1:54.02.
Ewart later tacked on a third place tally in the 200 yard IM of 2:01.07, one spot ahead of teammate senior Matt Carducci (2:01.23), who picked up two team points with the result.
Senior Jake Hassel tallied a pair of top-four finishes on the day, including a second place time of 52.63 in the 100 fly, and a fourth place time of 1:58.92 in the 200 yard butterfly.
Moyar's time of 4:48.00 was good enough for third place in the 500 yard freestyle.
On the relay side, the team of White, Willis, Moyar and sophomore Zach Tieke took second place in the 400 freestyle relay, combining to finish in 3:08.50.
Lehigh will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 1 p.m., when they will welcome Colgate to Jacobs Pool for a Patriot League matchup.
