Lehigh opens fall campaign at Penn Invitational

PHILADELPHIA – The Lehigh men's tennis team opened its fall season at the Penn Invitational, which was contested Friday and Saturday at Penn's Hamlin Tennis Courts and the Levy Tennis Pavilion. The Mountain Hawks squared off against Saint Joseph's and Georgetown, playing four doubles matches and eight singles matches against both schools. Lehigh also played four singles matches against Monmouth and Princeton and faced off in doubles matches against players from Penn and Princeton.
Senior Ben Gilman and sophomore Colin Nardella both won two singles matches on the weekend, while the doubles pair of sophomores Tyler Hansen and Graham Lehman posted a 3-1 record.
Lehigh began the weekend with a pair of doubles matches against teams from Penn and Princeton, plus four singles matches against Monmouth. Hansen and Lehman won 8-7 against Ben Tso and Ben Quazzo of Princeton. The Mountain Hawks dropped all four singles matches against the Hawks.
The Mountain Hawks overcame a slow start in doubles against Saint Joseph's to win six of eight singles matches. Nardella and classmate Ethan Bogard posted a doubles win after the Hawks won the top three flights. Gilman won 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 over Renier Moolman at the top singles flight. Also picking up singles wins against Saint Joseph's was Nardella, Hansen, Bogard, junior Ricardo Prince and freshman Jack Petersen.
Hansen and Lehman accounted for Lehigh's only win against Princeton while the Tigers won the other doubles match and swept four singles matches.
Lehigh closed out the weekend against Georgetown, splitting eight singles matches against the Hoyas while Georgetown won three of the four doubles matches. Again it was Hansen and Lehman winning. Gilman, Nardella and junior Jeremy Kochman were straight set winners while senior Mitchell Petersen needed three sets to defeat Shane Korber.
