BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Mountain Hawks will compete at their first away meet of the season at the Main Line Invitational Thursday in Haverford, Pa. Teams competing in the four-mile race include Villanova, Haverford, Penn, La Salle, and Widener.
Penn is ranked fifth in the Mid-Atlantic region with Lehigh close behind at sixth place, and La Salle at tenth. Villanova is currently ranked ninth nationally in Division I, while Haverford is ranked 12th nationally in the Division III polls.
"There is no team scoring for the event," said head coach Todd Etters. "But this will give us an opportunity to race against some of the powerhouse teams of our region, some of whom are national powerhouses."
Lehigh is coming off its 16th straight win over Lafayette where senior Ryan Mahalsky captured the individual title. Freshmen John Tolbert and Patrick Reilly made their mark in the league, both earning Patriot League Rookie of the Week Honors since the start of the season.
Impressive performances have also come from Lehigh's upperclassmen, including senior Nick Ward, senior Simon Voorhees, and junior Sean Burke, all gaining personal best times at the season opening Lehigh Invitational.
The Mountain Hawks will use the Main Line Invitational to prepare for the 41st annual Paul Short Run, which will be held on October 4 at the Goodman Campus cross country course.
"This meet is a great introduction to the second half of our season and to a string of national class races," said Etters. "With Paul Short right around the corner, we are looking forward to opening up the throttle a little bit, and running fast on Thursday will be great preparation for running fast at Paul Short."
Full results of the Main Line Invitational will be posted on Lehighsports.com at the conclusion of the event.
