Ross and Jenkins announcement
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh head coach Brett Reed has announced the addition of Brandon Alston to the incoming class of 2018. The 6-foot-5-inch guard comes to Lehigh from Virginia where he was a 2014 McDonald's All-American nominee at Herndon High School. Alston joins Kahron Ross and Tyler Jenkins as incoming freshmen this fall.
"We are really pleased with the addition of Brandon Alston to our program," said Lehigh head coach Brett Reed. "His size, athleticism and ability to score will significantly complement the existing pieces in our program. Ultimately, we feel the class of 2018 is strong and will be solid contributors to our aspirations of winning championships."
Alston recently scored 25 points in the Capital Classic All-Star Game, which consists of the best players from the D.C./Maryland/Virginia area. That effort earned him Game MVP honors. Alston was also voted to play in the ASSISTS Tri-State All-American Game. As a senior at Herndon High School, Alston scored 23 points in the District Championship to earn Player of the Game honors. He was voted onto the 6A North All-Tournament Team and eclipsed 1,000 career points.
As a junior, Alston was the leading scorer for Middleburg Academy, averaging 16 points per game to lead a team with five averaging double figures. Alston shot 47 percent from three-point range, recording 478 points, 151 rebounds and 49 steals. He led his squad to the Sleep Thompson Tournament where Middleburg beat Indiana commit Robert Johnson in the championship. Middleburg ended up advancing to the semifinals of states. After the season, Alston was voted onto the DMV Elite All-Northern Virginia Team, playing for Boo Williams for a second straight summer and starting at shooting guard.
In his sophomore year, Alston was the third leading scorer for Middleburg Academy. He posted 372 points and advanced to the third round of the state tournament. Alston was the starting small forward for Boo Williams Summer League out of Hampton, Virginia.
As a freshman, Alston played junior varsity and varsity at Paul VI Catholic High School in Fairfax, Virginia. While there, he set the school record for most points scored in a JV game (32) as his squad won the JV WCAC Conference.
The 2013-14 Mountain Hawks ended their season with a 14-18 record highlighted by a big win at regular season champion Boston University. Lehigh also owned win streaks of five and four games, respectively, defeating Texas Southern who made the NCAA Tournament, Boston University who made the NIT and Quinnipiac who made the CollegeInsider.com Tournament.
