
Lehigh defeats Colgate 4-0 to advance to PL Semifinals Saturday

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The defending champion and fourth-seeded Lehigh men's tennis team opened up the Patriot League Tournament with a 4-0 victory over No. 5 Colgate Friday afternoon at Army's Outdoor Malek Tennis Courts. The victory advances Lehigh to Saturday's semifinals against top-seeded host Army at 10 a.m. Junior Mitchell Petersen and sophomore Jeremy Kochman both won in singles and doubles play as Lehigh improves to 12-7 on the season.
Petersen and senior Mark Goldberg started things off for the Mountain Hawks with an 8-3 win over Luke Gensburg and Bobby Berkowitz at No.1 doubles, while Kochman teamed with junior Ben Gilman to clinch the doubles point with an 8-2 victory over Alan Pleat and Archer McFall. In the No. 3 flight, freshman Tyler Hansen and senior Timur Chernykh were up 6-3 in their match, which did not finish since Lehigh had already clinched the doubles point.
In singles play, Kochman gave the Mountain Hawks a 2-0 lead after defeating McFall 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. Chernykh extended Lehigh's lead to 3-0 winning No. 6 singles 6-4, 6-2 over Jake Hirschberg, while Peterson clinched the quarterfinal with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Pleat at the No. 3 flight.
The Mountain Hawks will now face No. 1 Army in Saturday's semifinal at 10 a.m. The Black Knights blanked Lafayette 4-0 in their quarterfinal matchup Friday.
