
Mountain Hawks host Colgate to open up Patriot League play

BETHLEHEM, Pa. –The Lehigh softball team will make its first appearance of the season at Kaufman Field this weekend as the Mountain Hawks welcome Colgate for a three-game series that marks the start of Patriot League play. The Mountain Hawks and Raiders will play a doubleheader Saturday at noon followed by a single game Sunday at noon.

The Mountain Hawks have won six of their last seven games and are 8-10 on the season after starting 0-5. Lehigh was beating Penn 10-3 on Wednesday in the first game of a doubleheader before both games were rained out.

Prior to Wednesday's washout, the Mountain Hawks went 4-0 last weekend at the Hornet Invitational in Dover, Del. as Lehigh defeated both Hartford and Delaware State twice. The Mountain Hawks combined for a total of 25 hits through all four games and outscored their opponents 20-1.Â

Sophomore Alexis Watanbe leads the team offensively with 19 hits, while classmate Morgan Decker is batting .326 with a team-best 13 RBI. Freshman Christine Campbell has pitched well in the circle as she earned her second straight Patriot League Pitcher of the Week award on Monday for pitching 12 scoreless innings over two games during the Hornet Invitational.

The Raiders are 5-12 on the season and are coming off a doubleheader split at George Washington Thursday. Colgate won the first game 3-1 but lost the second 9-1 in five innings. Marisa Dowling is Colgate's top hitter with a team-leading .362 batting average on 17 hits and 12 RBIs. The Raiders' three-person pitching staff combines for a 4.26 ERA and 37 strikeouts.

Lehigh went 5-0 against Colgate last season, sweeping four games in Hamilton, N.Y. and also defeating the Raiders in the first game of the Patriot League Tournament.

The Mountain Hawks have won the last two Patriot League regular season titles and were picked first in the league's preseason poll.
