BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's golf team is heading south for spring break as the Mountain Hawks will be playing in their first competition of the spring, the 4th annual Warner University Golf Classic Invitational. The three-day tournament will take place Sunday through Tuesday at Sun 'n Lake Golf Course in Sebring, Florida.
After a practice round on Sunday the official start of the tournament is on Monday with 18 holes followed by another 18 on Tuesday for a total of 36 holes for the women. Each day the tournament will begin with shotgun start at 8 a.m.
The tournament will take place on the Deer Run Course at the Sun 'n Lake Golf and Country Club. The Course plays at 6,916 yards with a par of 72. Bellevue University is the defending champions.
The Mountain Hawks played in five fall tournaments, finishing in the top half of the field in the Bucknell and Rutgers Invitational tournaments, while also competing in tournaments at Princeton and Yale and hosting the Lehigh Invitational presented by B Braun in late October.
Senior Crystal Lee had a successful fall season, leading the Mountain Hawks as Lehigh's top finisher at Princeton, Yale and Lehigh. Junior Kelly Moylan also finished strong, leading the Mountain Hawks at Rutgers and finishing second among Lehigh players at Saucon Valley CC in October.
Feierberg, the Outstanding Rookie at last year's Patriot League Championship, led the Mountain Hawks in the fall-opening Bucknell Invitational and should be a mainstay in the lineup.
The Mountain Hawks also welcomed two freshmen this year, Elizabeth McGarrigle and Claire Serruto who have proven they can play at the college level.
Also in the mix for playing time in the Mountain Hawks' lineup are senior Elle Sander, juniors Melanie Dickens and Alyssa Scheyd and sophomore Tess Jennings.
The Warner University is the first of five tournaments on Lehigh's spring schedule. After the Warner University Golf Classic, the Mountain Hawks will move on to the C&F Bank Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, Va., March 16-18. Lehigh will also play in the Hoya Invitational, hosted by Georgetown March 31-April 1 and the Red Flash Invitational April 14-15 in Loretto, Pa.
Lehigh will look to defend its Patriot League title from 2013 when the Mountain Hawks host the Patriot League Championship, April 19-20 at Saucon Valley Country Club.
