
Mountain Hawks open spring with team title at Warner University Invitational

SEBRING, Fla. – The Lehigh women's golf team placed four players in the top ten as the Mountain Hawks cruised to a 20 stroke victory in the Warner University Golf Classic Invitational, which wrapped-up Tuesday at the Sun 'n Lake Golf Course. The Mountain Hawks finished shaved 16 strokes off their opening round 336 to shoot 320 as a team on Tuesday and finish at 656. Lehigh finished 20 strokes ahead of second place Southeastern University (348-328-676) and 25 ahead of third place Thomas University (345-336-681).
By coming out on top of the ten team field, Lehigh has now won its spring-opening tournament over spring break in three of the last four seasons.
The top four Lehigh finishers showed good balance in Tuesday's final round. Junior Kelly Moylan shot 79, the low round for the Mountain Hawks' scoring players and tied for third at 81-79-160.
Senior Crystal Lee and sophomore Nicole Feierberg both shot 80 on Tuesday with Lee finishing sixth at 84-80-164 and Feierberg coming in one shot behind at 85-80-165 to finish seventh.
The fourth Mountain Hawk to finish in the top ten was junior Alyssa Scheyd, who shot 167 (86-61) to finish in tenth place. Junior Melanie Dickens rounded out Lehigh's group of five scoring players, finishing in 31st place at 92-94-186.
Lehigh also had four players compete as individuals, with its two freshmen leading the way. Elizabeth McGarrigle rebounded from an 89 Monday to shoot 84 Tuesday and finish 14th at 173. (redacted) finished in 25th place at 92-88-180.
Also competing for the Mountain Hawks were senior Elle Sander, who shot 97-92-189 to tie for 33rd place and sophomore Tess Jennings, who tied for 44th at 99-101-200.
Jessica Thurnburg was the individual medalist at 14 over par 158 (79-79). Thurnburg posted a one shot victory over Claudia Orrantia of Shorter University and was two shots better than a group that included Moylan.
The Mountain Hawks will return to action at the C&F Bank Intercollegiate, March 16-18 in Williamsburg, Va.
