BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh wrestling team will take to the mats in front of the home fans for the first time in the 2014-15 season with the annual Brown and White Wrestle-offs set for Thursday night inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall.

The Mountain Hawks are nearly three weeks deep into official practice and fans will get a look at 12 scheduled bouts as the Mountain Hawks enter the final week of preparation for their Nov. 6 season-opener vs. Hofstra.

"The guys have been wrestling each other for three weeks and they're excited to wrestle new people," said Lehigh head coach Pat Santoro. "Wrestle-offs are just another way to wrestle and get one step closer to that first dual meet and first competition.

"A lot has to go on in a short period of time," Santoro continued. "We're going to be making adjustments as we go. We start later and later every year but the season seems to start earlier. We just have to make due early in the season. Every week our number one goal is to get better. We're focused on March but last year the guys did a nice job of getting better each week. We're going to make some mistakes, but the most important thing is that we wrestle hard."

Thursday's wrestle-offs will mark the return of two EIWA Champions who deferred their eligibility last season. Sophomore Randy Cruz moved up to 141 pounds and will face true freshman Cortlandt Schuyler in one of two scheduled bouts at 141. Junior Nathaniel Brown enjoyed a successful deferral year, going 19-3 while moving up to 184. He will face true freshman Garett Stehley.

Three weight classes will feature two bouts Thursday evening. The 12-bout card is tentatively slated to begin and end with matches at 125. Sophomores Jonathan Mele and Artem Timchenko will battle in the night's opening bout, while the night will close with junior Cody Kievman facing freshman Scott Parker.

In addition to Cruz vs. Schuyler at 141, a pair of true freshman will meet at the weight as Ian Brown battles Brandon Diaz. The third weight class with two bouts scheduled is 197. A pair of returning NCAA Qualifiers will meet as sophomore Elliot Riddick meets junior John Bolich. Riddick is attempting to bump up two weight classes from 174. The second match at 197 pits junior Dave Quackenbos against freshman Tom Murray.

Returning EIWA Champion and All-American Mason Beckman will not wrestle Thursday, has he gears up for a match with A.J. Schopp of Edinboro Saturday in the NWCA All-Star Classic in Philadelphia. Instead at 133 sophomore Dean Somers will face freshman Camden Fischer.

Two fifth-year newcomers will square off at 165 as Santiago Martinez; a former NCWA national champion from UCF meets Marshall Peppelman, who spent the previous four seasons at Cornell. Other matches on the slate include freshman Drew Longo vs. junior Laike Gardner at 149, freshman Ryan Preisch against sophomore Billy Ramsey at 174 and an exhibition match at 285 as sophomore Doug Vollaro meets Lehigh NCAA Champion Zach Rey '12.

The wrestle-offs get underway at 7 p.m. Thursday from Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling 610-7LU-GAME or by visiting LehighTickets.com. Tickets will also be available Thursday evening at Grace Hall.
