Mountain Hawks enjoy success in fall-ending Patriot League Kickoff

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Five Mountain Hawks went 3-0 in singles play as the Lehigh men's tennis team completed its fall season with a successful showing in the Patriot League Kickoff hosted by the Mountain Hawks on the Goodman Campus. Lehigh battled Patriot League rivals Army, Colgate and Lafayette and did well, going 8-4 in doubles and 21-3 in singles over the three day event.
The five Mountain Hawks who survived the weekend unscathed in singles play were seniors Ben Gilman and Mitchell Petersen, sophomores Ethan Bogard and Tyler Hansen, and freshman Jack Petersen. Gilman and Jack Petersen had to endure third sets, or ten point super tiebreaks in all three of their matches.
The weekend began Friday with Lehigh battling, and performing well against longtime nemesis Army. The Mountain Hawks swept the Black Knights in four doubles matches and eight singles matches.
On Saturday, the Mountain Hawks started slowly against Colgate, losing all four doubles matches to the Raiders, but Lehigh bounced back with six singles wins. In addition to the five players who went 3-0 on the weekend, junior Ricardo Prince defeated Chris Martinez 7-6, 6-3 at the eighth singles flight.
Lehigh concluded the weekend, and the fall season, by winning four doubles matches and seven of eight singles matches against rival Lafayette.

The Mountain Hawks' spring season will begin in late January.
