West Chester Edges Lehigh In Hard Fought Battle

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's swimming and diving team battled a strong West Chester team Friday night in hits home opener against West Chester, but the Mountain Hawks came up on the short end of a tightly-contested 167-137 score.

"Our men were the big surprise tonight," said head coach Rob Herb. "They did such a great job and they really swam up in every single event."

The Mountain Hawks started the night off with a win in the 400 medley relay consisting of senior Sean Brant, sophomore Kevin Huntley, junior Jake Hassel, and sophomore Justin White. White went on to win the 100 free while sophomore Jamal Willis won the 50 free, both leading the sprint effort over West Chester.

Sophomore Jacob Moyar pushed the NCAA Division II champion to his limits, while winning the 200 butterfly, the 200 IM, and finishing in second in the 500 free. Moyar was also part of the winning 400 free relay.

"The sprint events are our keystone," said Herb. "The relay events were great, both men's and women's 100 and 50 were just fantastic."

The Mountain Hawks face off against Rider tomorrow with swimming and diving events beginning at 1 p.m. at Jacobs Pool.
